XploreMe
The XploreMe App was designed with the intent to improve learning experiences for new trainees at Shell’s chemical plants. The app uses augmented reality to engage users in a discovery-oriented interactive process. The solution consisted of two platforms, iPad iOS and the R-6 Smart glasses.
As a starting point for this project, we visited Shell’s petrochemical plant where we met with the team responsible for on-boarding and training new employees. They gave us a tour of the plant, introduced us to the plant workers, and showed us how they went about taking care of some processes. After our visit, the team met to brainstorm and define features that we would include in the apps in the first phase. Once we established those requirements, we began defining user journey maps to help us identify key areas of engagement. Next, we began prototyping the solution and testing it with Shell’s employees. That feedback helped us improve our prototype and find additional opportunities that we could leverage in the app to increase value for our users.
